The North Face Denali Fleece Jacket – Men’s Recycled Charcoal Heather Grey Large – $164.95
The North Face Denali is a great fleece, however the 2009 Denali’s are made quite different – they are lighter because they use less layers of fleece, are made with all recycled materials, and are made in Mexico as opposed to the older versions made in El Salvador (this can be seen clearly on the tag). If you do your research, the 2009 version is commonly considered a much lower quality than the older versions.

Chances are if you have been to a college or university campus in the past 15 years, you have seen the North Face Denali. But don’t let its sophomoric ubiquity fool you; this perennial classic is popular for good reason. The cozy fleece and elastic cuffs trap warm air and the elbows, chest and shoulders have been reinforced with abrasion-resistant nylon. Use it as a mid-layer or as a warm fleece shell, you really can’t miss with the Denali. I currently own two of The North Face’s Denali fleece. One is a charcoal Denali bought in 1997 and made in the Dominican Republic. The other is black, bought in 2007 and made in Mexico. The only thing I’d mention to someone new to the jacket is an echo of a previous reviewer’s comment regarding short sleeves worn underneath the jacket. This is only a very minor concern, being that the jacket is very warm – I find myself unzipping the pit vents much more often than not. Having said that, I’ve had the Denali jacket along with me for winters in the Pacific Northwest, New Hampshire, Quebec and everything in between. The North Face Denali has been my main cold weather jacket for around 14 years and I haven’t had so much as a jammed zipper to deal with. In my experience, anything and everything I’ve owned from The North Face has been well worth the price and then some.
